Another Full Weekend!

Hello sport fans! Last weekend we had a Men's Rugby match against Belmont University on Friday night. WKU won 24-20. Then on Saturday and Sunday the WKU Dodgeball Club Team hosted the 2011 National Collegiate Dodgeball Association Tournament in the Raymond B. Preston Health and Activities Center. WKU ended up making it to the Elite Eight before being defeated by Saginaw Valley State University in a close game of 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Central Michigan won the tournament for the first time in league history after defeating Grand Valley State University 2-1. This week is another busy week for WKU Sport Clubs! WKU Men's Rugby will be hosting Hopkinsville at the Hattie L. Preston Intramural Sports Complex on Friday April 15, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. Then on Sunday the WKU Triathlon Club will be hosting the annual Tri-Topper Classic at the Raymond B. Preston Health and Activities Center. Come out and support your Hilltoppers this weekend and remember...Go Tops!

The Gears Are Turning

Welcome back Sport Club fans. I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break and stayed safe through all the snow and ice. Here at Sport Clubs we are glad to be back and are ready for a great 2011 Spring Semester. Starting the semester off we had two events this past week.

On January 27 the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/Judo Club hosted a seminar with their new instructor and also a world class instructor from Brazil who has some of the top Jiu-Jitsu competitors training under him.

Fencing also had an event this past weekend on January 29. The team traveled to Vanderbilt Univeristy. At the event Stephen Fisher took 2nd and Daniel Faller took 3rd. Fisher recieved a silver meddal and Faller a bronze.

It was an exciting week for Sport Clubs. Look out for upcoming events this semester hosted by all of our awesome clubs and come out and root for your Hilltoppers!

Weekend Wrap Up 11/12-11/14

Hey Topper Fans, WKU Sport Clubs is back with another Weekend Wrap Up for you! First of all the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/Judo Club traveled to the Extreme Grappling Open in Louisville, KY on November 13, 2010. The WKU Club did very well with James Roberts winning the Novice No Gi Lightweight Division, Sean Tedtaotao winning both Gi and No Gi for the White Belt and the Novice Super Feather Division. Logan Clark placed fourth in Gi and second in the No Gi for Lightweight White Belt. Russell Whatley placed third in the Gi Lightweight White Belt and second in the No Gi Lightweight Intermediate. Kiyo Izumi placed second in the No Gi Light Heavyweight Novice Division.

The WKU Dogeball Club traveled to Louisville, KY on November 14, 2010 to take on the University of Louisville. WKU won their game 5-2. Team Captain and President Felix Perrone said that, "Our catching and counter attacks have improved dramatically."

Weekend Wrap-Up for 11/5-11/7

Hey Topper Fans! WKU Sport Clubs is back with another weeekend Wrap-Up! This past weekend we had two events going on out at the Hattie L. Preston Intramural Sports Complex. The Field Hockey Club hosted a charity event to raise money for The Center for Courageous Kids. It was a very successful event with over 100 people coming out to support the Field Hockey Club and The Center for Courageous Kids whom they generated $500 for! WKU defeated Indiana University 3-0!

The Women's Soccer Club also had a game this past Sunday, they hosted Bellarmine University and defeated them 4-0! Way to go ladies!

Weekend Wrap Up: 10/29-10/31

This past weekend was WKU's Homecoming and everyone knows what that means: the WKU Men's and Women's Rugby Club's Annual Old Boys and Old Girls game. The current boys of the Rugby Club took on the Old Boys but fell short of victory. The Women however ended up winning against the Old Girls.

The Women's Volleyball Club traveled to the University of Kentucky on Saturday to take on UK, NKU, and EKU. The girls played well, but fell short of winning the tournament.

WKU's Fencing Club also went to a tournament this past weekend at Vanderbilt University. Stephen Fisher from WKU was awarded an E rank for his placing in the top 8 of the tournament.

Weekend Wrap Up for 10/22-10/24

Hey Sport Club Fans! WKU Sport Clubs had another weekend of many events that we are ready to tell you about. Let's start with Women's Rugby. Women's Rugby traveled to Sewanee College on Saturday and won 83 to 5! It was Emmy Snider, Smantha Lindenmayer, and Amanda Paschall's first time ever scoring. Christina Bradley(President of the Club) said, "This game was vital for our team because it was a victory we need to bring up our morale."

The WKU Dodgeball Club Team also was on the road this week at Western Illinois University to play in their tournament. Western won two of the three games defeating University of Wisconsin-Plattville and Depaul University. President and Captain of WKU Dodgeball said, "We did extremely well working as a team and communicating."

Field Hockey was also another WKU Sport Club that hit the road this past Sunday for a tournament at Vanderbilt. The Field Hockey team won both of their games against Vanderbilt and Saint Louis University. Captain Shelby Overstreet commented on how she was very proud of the team. They showed great sportmanship and gave all their effort in both games.

At home this week we had the the WKU Ultimate Frisbee Club hosting their annual tournament. It was a two day tournament with over 150 people in attendance! WKU won three of their four games and finished third in the tournament. WKU Alumni team ended up leaving the tournament in first place. Michelle Passi, the President of the Ultimate Frisbee Club told Sport Clubs that everthing was fantastic! All of the teams showed up and everyone had a great time. She is also hoping that their next event will be larger when they invite more teams!

Women's Volleyball also had a home tournament this past Sunday. They hosted Vanderbilt and Middle Tennessee State University. WKU had so many players show up that they had a Red team and a Black team. WKU Red put up a great effort but fell short of victory. WKU Black however won both of their games.

We also had the Men's Rugby Club and the Fencing Club play this past weekend. More information from both of them games will be coming in the near future. Until then, we are very proud of all Club Sports here at WKU and their success this past weekend. Until next time...GO TOPS!
